About "Piano Players"
“Piano Players’ is a reboot of the much-lauded documentary, “Piano Players Rarely Ever Play Together,” released in 1982. The film is centered around a proposed concert performance by three musical legends,
Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint and
Isidore “Tuts” Washington.
In 2022 Polly Waring, the widow of the original director Stevenson Palfi, commissioned Producer/Editor
Robert F. Landau to digitally restore the original film to modern high-def standards. In addition, she gave him access to a three hour “lost” interview Stevenson Palfi did with Professor Longhair as well as most of Stevenson’s raw footage.
Those assets, as well as a plethora of historical footage and photographs, not available to Stevenson at the time of the original film’s creation, were employed to create a feature length version of the original film now entitled “Piano Players.”

The filmmakers believe they have hewed closely to the films original intent and character and have deepened the story in ways that add to the historical record and musical significance of these three great musicians.
